Recap: 2006 RennSouth.com Auto Festival and Concours
What a beautiful day it turned out to be on Saturday. The early morning overcast and threat of rain kept some in but luckily by noon the sun was shining bright. We had competition on Saturday with several other shows in town but the quality at the RennSouth.com show was amazing!
This was our second show and we decided to move it outside and into a cooler month from last years July show that almost topped 100 degrees outside. Saturday it was in the high 70's and gorgeous. Early on we had a wonderful mix of Italian, German and British cars. We even had a surprise appearance of the YES Roadster, the only one in the USA thanks to Arnie Johnson current CEO of YES North America and former CEO of Lotus Cars USA. Arnie was also a judge on Saturday and specialized in the British cars of course! We were also lucky enough to see a new Aston Martin DB9 with full body kit on it's way to customer delivery. We didn't know what to expect this year as the cars began to roll in. We did expect that their reception would be one of happiness being greated by five of our gorgeous RennSouth.com Girls. These girls spent the afternoon as good will ambassadors to the car enthusiasts and fans participating in the show. They were very popular when it came to photo ops and never missed an opportunity to go for a ride in one of the many exotics on hand. Look for them in the following months as we spotlight each of them in our monthly RennSouth.com Girl photoshoots here on the website. This year the classes were modified to better suit the entrants of the show based on our experiences last year. We had three; Concours (all cars up to 1979 model years), Modern (1980 to current production) and Open/Modified (modified cars, racecars, kit cars and so on). This year the Best in Show award was very, VERY close as the judges had to deliberate several times over who should take home the $1,000 Best in Show award. It was down to three cars conicidentally all Porsches; 911 Speedster, 356 Cab and a 911 RS. Ultimately the 911 RS took home the prize and what a beautiful car it was. This is also the second year that a classic 911 has taken home the Best in Show award. That's two for Porsche, who will win it next year? Make sure you check RennSouth.com often for details on our next show and come see for yourself the beautiful cars that participate. Photos for this event are in our Gallery: http://www.rennsouth.com/rennsouthgallery/albums.php Thank you to all who attended, participated and entered the show. We very much appreciate your interest in RennSouth.com and we look forward to seeing you all online here and at our next event! Donovan RennSouth.com
